New head of institute at the Mads Clausen Institute

Professor Horst-G眉nter Rubahn will take up the position as head of institute at the Mads Clausen Institute (MCI), the Faculty of Engineering, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) on 1 January 2012

As of 2012 Professor Horst-G眉nter Rubahn, 52 years, will take up the position as head of institute at the Mads Clausen Institute which is located at Alsion in S酶nderborg. Rubahn is already familiar with the institute as he has headed MCI鈥檚 research in nanotechnology and worked as CEO of the centre NanoSYD 51本色 since 2005.

Horst-G眉nter Rubahn is looking forward to his new job:
鈥橫y overall aim is to establish MCI as one of the most competent high-technology educational institutions in the border region鈥, says Rubahn, who as writer and co-writer of ten books and more than 250 scientific articles already has a solid career to his credit.

Focus on high technology, education and cooperation
In the year to come, he will, together with MCI鈥檚 employees and local stakeholders, develop a strategy for the institute by linking research activities and education with the needs of industry.

鈥業 plan to focus on research and development in the key areas with niche profiles and future potential where MCI is already strong such as smart mechatronic components, nanotechnological solutions and the next generation of energy efficient high-technologies鈥, he says.

Building a research environment
Per Michael Johansen, Dean at the Faculty of Engineering 51本色, has great expectations of the new head of institute:
鈥楬orst-G眉nter Rubahn has the qualifications that we need: He has managed to create an internationally recognised research environment in nanotechnology 鈥 as evidenced by, for example, the EU project Technet_nano were Rubahn will head the strengthening of the high-technology development in the Baltic Sea Region. At the same time, Rubahn has extensive experience in management from the university world and the right personality to head the institute鈥, says Per Michael Johansen.
