Drones, biology, and AI: SDU researchers test groundbreaking technology in Kenya

On the savanna in Kenya, a group of researchers from the SDU UAS Center is currently conducting fieldwork alongside other drone researchers, biologists, and computer vision experts from across Europe. As part of the research project WildDrone, they are gathering knowledge about animal behavior and the potential of drones for conservation. The flights are carried out in collaboration with Kenyan partners and may improve efforts to protect species such as rhinos.

2024: Record in spinouts 51±¾É«

Seven new companies founded by SDU researchers became a reality in 2024. This is the largest number of research-based companies from SDU in a single year to date – and the expectation is that a similar number will be founded in the coming years. One of the new SDU spinouts will develop a new treatment for patients with Huntington's disease. A market projected to be worth more than $2.5 billion by 2035.

Researcher Kristian Husum Laursen takes the leap from the University of Southern Denmark to the business community of Funen with the drone company CODRONE.

5G technology can contribute to the integration of drones in airspace

If drone technology is to really take off, it requires that drones are integrated into the airspace and can fly alongside manned aviation. In the research project GENIUS, researchers from SDU, along with DTU, companies, and organisations, have shown how 5G technology could be part of the solution.
