LabSTEM (Laboratory for Integrated STEM Teaching and Learning) is a research and development project that aims to clarify and provide specific examples of integrated STEM teaching and learning.
The LabSTEM project aims to improve the quality of teaching in mathematics and science subjects in upper secondary school and vocational education and training.
The LabSTEM project started in 2020 with funding from the Novo Nordisk Foundation and Region of Southern Denmark, and continued on January 1, 2023, with new funding from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The project is based on the Laboratory Model – hence the name; 'Lab' combined with 'STEM' (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), which forms the core focus of the project.
The project has, among other things, resulted in the bookSTEM Didaktik, which was published by the University of Southern Denmark Press in 2024. Read more about the book here in Danish
Another concrete outcome of the project is a Danish series of STEM activities and programs developed in laboratories throughout the region. Some of them have been compiled into four booklets for daycares, primary schools, high schools, and vocational schools, respectively. All activities are accessible here on the page under STEM activities. The activities originated from the work in the laboratories, where participants developed them and tested them in practice. They can be used as they are or serve as a basis for your own ideas. Read below, where each booklet can be found as a flip-through PDF, and further down the page, there are links to download the booklets.
The booklets can be downloaded in their full length here (currently Danish only):
