Driven by an ambition to promote those talents and research achievements that develop society

The university was inaugurated in 1966. Thus, SDU was founded in a time of unrest and upheaval that impacted art, culture, the labour market, norms and institutions 鈥� and the view on institutions of higher education. The political view was, that the universities to a greater extend had to contribute to the development of the welfare state by: 鈥淧romoting the training demanded by the times.鈥� Since its foundation, SDU has been driven by an ambition to promote those talents and research achievements that develop society, adapt to contemporary demands and challenge the norms. The example hereof is SDU鈥檚 exceptional quota 2 admission called test-based admission. The robot cluster on Funen, the largest in the North, shows how sustainable achievements become when the business community and research collaborate to find solutions. The cross-disciplinary cooperation is a significant value 51本色. The challenges of the future within climate, welfare and health are complex and unpredictable. We need more than one field of study, one method or one approach to solve them. Accordingly, several of our strategic research projects are cross-disciplinary, and students will encounter subjects that have contributions from several faculties.
