OPEN Lab

Launching a new study or reusing biobank material?

Whether you are initiating a new project or bringing samples from storage to science, you may need guidance in specific analyses, suggestions on sample preparation and handling, or ideas on how to make the most of your results.

Mission and vision

Established in 2021 with support from the OUH Research Council, OPEN Lab serves as a core facility providing laboratory expertise and fostering innovative research collaborations at OUH and SDU.

Located at KMEB (Molecular Endocrinology Department), OPEN Lab offers access to state-of-the-art equipment and expert guidance.

Our services are free of charge for OUH and SDU researchers, covering all operational and equipment costs. The only expenses incurred are for specific immunoassays and reagents.

Our expertise

✔ Non-routine protein and biomarker analysis. OPEN Lab specializes in measuring proteins and circulating biomarkers not routinely analyzed at the Research Unit of Clinical Biochemistry (KBF). Our primary focus is on small to medium-sized studies.

✔ Expertise in immunoassays. We provide in-depth knowledge of commercial immunoassay formats (e.g., ELISAs), offering insights into their advantages, limitations, and best applications.

✔ Thorough assay validation and quality control. To ensure trustworthy and reproducible results, we emphasize precision, accuracy, specificity, and stability in all our analyses.

✔ Guidance on sample preparation and data interpretation. From study design to sample handling, analysis recommendations, and data interpretation, we offer support tailored to your research needs.

Utilizing biobank material?

The OPEN Biobank at OUH houses 500,000+ biological samples from 1,100+ projects, offering a unique resource for new research initiatives.

Meaningful reuse of biobank material can:

  • Enable new scientific discoveries by leveraging existing high-quality samples.
  • Significantly reduce the time from project conception to results.
  • Optimize research investments by making the most of available resources. Note: Ethical approval is required for sample reuse
